08/10/2012 8:29 PM - (Ramapo, NY) After surrendering three runs in the top of the first, Rockland responded with five in the bottom half of the inning and eventually took down the Jackals 9-4.

New Jersey jumped out on Boulders starter Gustavo Chacin early when Francisco Caraballo homered in the bottom of the first to make the score 2-0. Carlos Guzman would help add to the Jackals lead with a two-out single that knocked in Nick Giarraputo and made it 3-0 New Jersey.

But the Boulders took no time in responding. In the bottom of the first, Chris Valencia and Cole Kraft would score on a fielder’s choice by Gabby Martinez and an error by Caraballo. Rockland would take the lead on the very next at-bat as Ryan Scoma hit his tenth long ball of the season and made the tally 5-3 Boulders.

It was all Boulders after that. Rockland would add three in the bottom of the third on RBI singles from Billy Alvino and Chris Valencia. An error by Jackals shortstop Matt Nandin would also allow Ryan Mollica to score and make the score 8-3 Boulders after three innings of play.

Chacin would settle in and finish six innings giving up four runs on seven hits while striking out three. Rockland’s last run would come in the form of a Cole Kraft single that drove in Billy Alvino in the bottom of the fifth.

Rockland and New Jersey face off again tomorrow night at Provident Bank Park before heading to Montclair for a game on Sunday. Don’t miss the fireworks spectacular after the 7 p.m. game tomorrow night.
