The Rockland Boulders will host their second-annual open tryout on Saturday, May 5, at 3 p.m. at Provident Bank Park.
Seven participants of the 2011 tryout camp were invited to spring training by the Boulders. Two players, Mark Hill and Justin Ottman, made the Boulders’ opening day roster. Four of the seven eventually played for the Boulders during the 2011 season, with two others finding playing time with the New York Federals. Three other tryout participants played for other teams in the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball last season.
“One of the many beauties of baseball is you never know when or where you are going to find your next player,” said Boulders manager Dave LaPoint. “Every professional player has to start somewhere and many of those starts have taken place at open tryouts and that is why we encourage everyone to chase their dream.”
The cost to participate in the open tryout is $100 in advance and $125 on the day of the tryout. The registration fee includes two vouchers to a future Boulders game, a Boulders t-shirt and dinner after the tryout. Registration in advance online at www.rocklandboulders.com
is recommended. Players should start arriving at Provident Bank Park at 2 p.m. for the 3 p.m. tryout. Friends and family are welcome to attend.
