Rockland Boulders Acquire Former Major League Pitcher Julio Santana

By:
07/19/2012 4:03 PM - Ramapo, NY) - The Rockland Boulders of the Can-Am League announced today that they have signed pitcher Julio Santana. The right-handed pitcher will be used in a relief role, and is in uniform and available for tonight's game against the Worcester Tornadoes at Provident Bank Park.

Santana, a native of San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic, was signed by Texas as an amateur free agent in 1990. He appeared as an original member of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 1998, and his best pro season came in 2002 when he worked out of the bullpen for the Detroit Tigers, where he posted a 3-5 record with a 2.84 ERA in 38 appearances. Overall he pitched in 209 games for six teams over his Major League career, compiling a record of 17-31 with a 5.30 ERA.

As the Boulders were playing one player short of their roster allocation, they are not required to make any additional moves and are now at the Can-Am League's roster limit of 22 players.
